Tamu Besar Kota Belud 2009: The faces, costumes & culture
One of the many attractions at the annual Tamu Besar Kota Belud is of course the people and the culture behind this annual festival. It is a time to witness the locals out in their finest traditional garbs and to experience part of their culture in song, dance and tradition.
But the festival is not merely about seeing people in colourful traditional costumes dancing to mesmerizing ethnic beats. It is also a great time to interact with the locals and learn more about the foods, the crafts, the culture and most of all, to learn more about the people who are not at the forefront and yet are a vital part of the entire festival.

The visitors came in droves towards the later part of the morning and the entire Tamu was packed with people before noon. Still it was great to meet up with some familiar faces from KK there that day as well
The Tamu ended at around noon, after which the crowd made its way to the field in the centre of town for the event which has made the Tamu Besar Kota Belud one of the most anticipated events in the Sabah tourism calendar – the spectacular show of horse riding skills by the local “cowboys of the east”.
