Kasih Sayang Resort
Merely a few hours after I first came to hear of this resort’s existence, I Googled for more info and as soon as I saw the pictures on their website, I was won over. A resort high up on the hills overlooking KK with the most stunning views all around, seemed like too good an opportunity to wait too long for. So within less than a week of first knowing of this place’s existence, we were already there for our first visit.
Kasih Sayang Boutique Health Resort and Spa is located on the fringes of the Crocker Range and right at the peak of Bukit Kokol. At an altitude of 2400 feet above sea level the resort boasts of fresh and natural air conditioning thanks to the cool breeze blowing from the hills around it.
The main attraction at the resort is no doubt their fabulous views. With such stunning sights all around the resort one could just sit for hours at the hillside deck and just admire the scenery so it didn’t matter to me at all that there weren’t that much else to do there. After all most people who come here are here to do nothing anyway and just relax at their room’s balcony or at the resort’s main deck while soaking the views.
That is of course until low lying clouds creep in and cloak everything and all you’re left to admire is a sea of white all around you.
If the clouds are putting a damper on your plans to enjoy the views, you could indulge in some makan-makan at the Cloud 9 Restaurant while waiting for the skies to clear up. Though I have to be honest and admit that the food there wasn’t all that great despite being quite pricey.
For those who long to get their feet a little dirty and feel closer to nature, several nearby trails can take you on walks to explore the surrounding area.
For some gentle pampering, their Manja-Manja Spa is open till 6pm and treatments which range from RM60 to RM130 seem much more affordable compared to that at some of the spas in KK.
At night, the activities at the resort are further limited to some simple board games at the function room, or if you’re up to it some open karaoke also at the same venue.
Once it gets dark outside, entomologists would have a fit at all the crawling and flying specimens on the balcony and just outside the room, all fresh from the jungle around us. A friend counted over 20 varieties of moths on the wall immediately outside our room – a real heaven for macro photography. BM will put up the moth pics over at his blog once he removes the cobwebs there
The view of the setting sun from high up on the hills was reputed to be breathtaking. Unfortunately both of the times we were at this resort, it ended up being too cloudy at dusk so that winning sunset photo will have to wait till the next time we’re at this resort again.
But even though we didn’t get to view the sunset both of the times that we were there, at least the skies never failed to clear up later at night and we got to see the beautiful distant night view of KK.
The next morning, instead of facing Westward towards KK, we went out the main entrance of the resort to look at the Eastward view from the resort. During our first trip there, just like at sunset the night before once again it was too cloudy during sunrise, so we failed to get any decent pics of the golden skies at sunrise. At first we thought of giving up on our hope of viewing the majestic mountain, once again no thanks to the clouds. But since it seemed that the clouds were moving fast across the skies, our patience paid off not too long later when within less than an hour the clouds cleared up to reveal what they were hiding.
During our second trip there the skies were a lot clearer in the morning, however the lack of high altitude clouds made the sunrise seem rather dull and lifeless. Well, all the more reason to return here again and again for that elusive photograph. After all, with that brand new paved road from Menggatal till 3/4 up the hill (and very soon right to the resort’s doorstep) it’ll only take slightly over half an hour to reach this place.
