Pulau Manukan
It’s been quite a while since our last island trip last July to Pulau Sapi, one of Manukan’s nearby neighbours.
This time, a mere 10 minutes boat ride from Jesselton Point in KK , we found ourselves on another beautiful coral island with crystal clear waters and abundant fish of all shapes and colours – the perfect way to spend a beautiful sunday.
During the morning boat ride to Manukan, the waters were calm enough to allow us a glimpse on the daily life of some of the locals of Pulau Gaya, the largest of the five islands which make up the Tunku Abdul Rahman marine park.
We were one of the earliest to arrive on the island that morning, and so we managed to secure what we felt was the perfect spot for a few hours of lazing around and doing nothing, interspersed with a few hours of snorkelling in the sea and getting the skin roasted well done.
A useful pointer if you’re planning a trip here – the best spot for snorkelling can be located by venturing a little further from the shore along the deeper channel which runs to the beach. Go further out to sea by following the route where the “Scubadoo”ing folks go pass to reach their underwater sea exploration site. If you find yourself at this right spot, you’ll get to see schools of fishes of all sorts swimming all around as well as just beneath you. It was literally like being in the middle of a gigantic aquarium – and since there were far fewer snorkellers at these deeper parts of the sea, you get to enjoy the view all to yourself. Just make sure you’re a good swimmer or you’ve got a life jacket on coz the water’s really deep here.
Apart from snorkelling, there’s loads of other activities to keep you occupied during your time here on the island.
By the way, this is what Scubadoos look like, just in case you were wondering after reading me mention about them in the last paragraph.
But with such breathtaking scenery all around, there’s no harm at all in not taking part in any of the activities on the island. You could just spend hours lying in the sand while listening to the sound of the waves and yet still come back from the island trip feeling mentally and physically refreshed. Or you could just take a walk along the beach and see if you can spot some interesting creatures like this one below…..
or perhaps even this one here….
For those who feel that the few hours of a daytrip is too short a time to spend on such a beautiful island, there’s the high-end Manukan Island Resort located right where all the action is.
After spending half of the day on the island, a tingling sensation on the back signalled that a really bad sunburn was brewing and that it was then time to leave. As the boat got further and further away, I mentally reminded myself to return here over and over again whenever i feel my batteries getting drained.

Elle: Memang kena pegi tapi kena budget utk habiskan sehari suntuk kat sini la. Kalau rush2 memang tak puas bersantai. Paling best bawa buku or MP3 player and just rileks jer… Betul2 puas hati.
BM: Beruang yang bersalai tapi yang sorang lagi lak yang mengelupas kepedihan akibat sunburn… Adoiii…. Padan muka tak gheti nak sapu sunblock byk2 sebelum gi snorkelling hehehe
elle… lain kali kena gi manukan… entah kenapa abg bear rasa pulau manukan ni lah pantai dia dan ikan dia dan air dia yang paling cantik among all… untuk pulau2 yang murahlah….

Waaaaaaa, memang cantik Pulau ni. I’d been planning to come here for years but had to cancel due to many unforeseen circumstances. Now that dah ada Justin, lagi ler susah nak ke tempat ni. Whuaaaaaaaa…….
Psst, love the beruang salai pic. It’s witty.
BM: Betul setuju sangat. Walaupun ada guidebook yg kata Mamutik lebih best utk snorkelling, rasanya kat Manukan ni jauh lagi best – especially bila jumpa spot yang penuh sangat dgn bermacam2 jenis ikan tu. Tak sabar nak gi belajar diving kat sini 2 minggu lagi yahoooo
Josh: Wait till Justin dah besar sikit then datang la… Mcm si Tijah tu – terpaksa postpone a few months till her baby is big enough to travel & end of the month diorang dtg sini satu family
Nice pics Shah. Bestnye, rasa tingin nak g, but part sun burn tu the scariest factor tak jd pegi. But org putih melepak mcm the writer boleh lah buat re-visit 8 kali lg, hehe
Huwaaaa…. Tak ajak erk… patut ah senyap2 je dua tiga menjak nie.. Btw, Pulau Mamutik best gak ke? Ahad ni plan nak pegi ngan member2 x-colege. Kalo tak best taknak ah pegi…
waaaaaaaaaa…best! pulau2 d malaysia mmg terbaekkk..x sabo nk blk..mau bejalan la..heheh
NbC: Baring2 jer la bawah pokok sepanjang hari pun best jugak. BTW sunburn tu sebab gatal tak pakai sunblock… Sebelum2 ni kalo turun laut memang wajib pakai sunblock & dah lama tak garing kena matahari camni
Jr: Mamutik pun best gak la utk snorkelling. Rasa cam lagi byk area yg cantik utk snorkelling compared to Manukan ni yg cuma satu area tu jer yg byk sangat ikan. Tapi macam lagi byk spesis ikan yg aku nampak kat Manukan ni compared to Mamutik la.
Arulz: Betul betul betul… Memang puas hati snap gambau kalo berjalan kat sini
Kang pegi sana cuma nak cari ikan lah plak.. haha… takpa pasnie pinjam dslr boss tuk snap pics. Harap2 dia bagi kalo tak aku berenti keje trus masuk JPJ jadi budak trafik. hahaha… **evil grind
Jr: Hahahaha…. Macam2 lah kau ni
Yelah kan.. as always… KAN!!! lolz (n_n)v
