Snorkelling at Manukan Island

When we were at Manukan early last month, I came across a spot over the deeper parts where there were no other snorkellers and yet the underwater scenery was simply breathtaking. No words could adequately describe how beautiful it was below the surface. That whole hour I was snorkelling there, the only thing I kept thinking over and over again was, “If only I had an underwater camera….If only I had an underwater camera….If only I had an underwater camera….” So last Saturday when we were back at Manukan with Tijah & Ajib who were visiting from KL, I came better equipped.

However unlike during our previous visit, this time they weren’t kidding with those “Jellyfish Season” signboards. In the morning I had no way to get to that favourite snorkelling spot since just beyond the shallow waters there were far too many jellyfish in the sea – and not just the usual stingless clear domes. A more menacing looking pinkish jellyfish which packed a nasty sting were everywhere and as soon as I got a nice sting on my chest, I immediately turned back to the shallower parts and gave up on any hope of getting some underwater photos.

Fortunately I decided to try again later in the afternoon, this time along with BM. When we reached that particular area again, to our delight the waters were clear of those nasty pink stingers. And so, these are the photos from the snorkelling session at Manukan Island last Saturday.

And since photos alone don’t really seem to fully reflect the true natural wonder of this location, here is a compilation of some of the videos I took with the waterproof camera to further convince you of the beauty you can expect to find here:

Since it’s my first time recording underwater, please forgive the nauseating camera shakes & the frequent zooming in/darting all over the place – gotta remind myself to keep the hands steady & not to press the zoom button so much when I take the camera out on its maiden scuba dive once the proper underwater casing arrives :-)

  4. Jellyfish stings can be nasty! However, there is an easy way to handle them if you are unlucky enough to be stung. There is a cosmetic product called Regen that will take out the sting and prevent the scarring that can occur. And if you are on the beach, it does the same for sunburn! Look at these picshttp://blog.oli-co.com/?p=486

Even better, it is all natural, non-prescription, does not sting your eyes, and they guarantee your satisfaction! Take care, Suz!

long time no comment, anyway, i read somewhere in the cyberworld, that, there is a trick to make underwater shots look more vibrant and interesting. when you edit the pictures, you should photoshop it and add some slight film of transparent blue some sort like that.

    camtu lah lebih kurang…

  12. wow! what camera did you use when snorkeling? i hope not so expensive.
